354/366 – The calm before the storm.

I have been busy planning for the class I will be teaching this semester, and so when I saw the beautiful light in the empty classroom this evening I had to grab a shot. Ironically enough the file number is the same as the course number I will be teaching. And, this is my first photograph in daylight in 4 days, so that is exciting.

268/365 – Squeegees

This is last night’s picture, but I was working on a paper all night and didn’t remember to upload.

These are the squeegees that we use in my printmaking class. Not all that interesting especially after yesterday’s picture, but I still like it so it’s ok.

265/365 – Screen Printed Mishy!

So I know this isn’t the most interesting or exciting photograph, but, I was just so excited about my print! I am currently in a printmaking class, which is all about screen printing. We just learned the reduction process using 3 colors, and I decided to use my picture of Mishy (from day 243) for my project. We also learned how to use photo emulsion for our images, which is how I did all of this.

On a side note…only 100 days left! Wow!

235/365 – Staples

Last night in printmaking  (we are learning about screen printing) we were prepping our frames for new mesh. We had to pull all the old staples out so that we could staple the mesh onto the frame without hitting the old staples. It was such fun, and I managed to cut myself.

20/52 – Waiting for something better.

I have had these pictures for such a long time, but am just now getting around to posting them. This is for my studio project this summer (potentially?), and at this point I was still using strobes. Not in love with this picture at all, but I like it enough to post it.

And, so that I don’t overload with posts today here is another one from the shoot, with the bear.Which I think I have decided will be an important part of my project.  I am not a huge fan of this picture either, but I like it enough to post, and to give an idea of what I am working towards for those of you who are interested.

I am interested what you all think about these. Let me know what sort of emotion/mood and possible meaning (if any) you could get out of it! That way I can start to figure out if these are total failures. Thanks so much!

148/365 – Caged In

It has been a rough couple of days for me. My class ends on Tuesday, and I have so much to do before that so I am fairly stressed. And I want more than anything to be back in MN for a little right now. It has been around 6.5 months since I have been home and seen my family and friends. It is taking its toll on me at the moment.

This is in my studio building, where I was for a while today.

Sculpture: The Jumper

In my studio this summer we poured a 200 pound block of plaster and then gradually chiseled away at it to carve something showing motion. I chose to do a long jumper for my piece since I was a long jumper in high school and absolutely loved it.

This project was an insane amount of work. Despite being done for a full day, my hand is still extremely sore, swollen, and I am unable to bend or straighten it all the way. I was so frustrated while working on this piece, I almost wanted to just quit. I even had an arm break off while working (which I am actually very happy that it did). However, despite how much I hated it while working, t was by far the best critique (at least most positive) I have ever had, and I think it may be my favorite piece that I have ever made (other than photographs).

125/365 – Plaster Covered

In my summer class today we had to mix and pour 200 pounds of plaster into big cardboard boxes. It was crazy exhausting work. Then some people’s boxes busted open, spilling the plaster everywhere. Me and Susannah (who the eye picture is of) rushed to help one of the guys who had that problem, and got splattered with plaster as a result. We decided we needed a picture together, which is the first somehow (despite knowing each other for 4 years). And yet it is just of our dirty feet, how nice.

50/365 – Post

I have been slaving away in studio all day (and will be going back in a bit, for the rest of the night) and didn’t have a chance or will power to take a picture so this is from a few days ago. I am just beyond exhausted and not even near half way done on my projects, so tomorrow will probably be an old shot too. It makes me sad, I really wanted my 50th shot to be a really good one. But, my first cheat of the project, so that is pretty good right?
