Prairie Hike

I hadn’t been out to the Konza Prairie for ages, and when it warmed up last weekend I jumped at the chance to head out there for a hike with fellow photography graduate student, Myra. I also hadn’t been out there with my new lens, so I was excited to be able to get a new perspective on something I have shot multiple times before. Unfortunately when we got out there it got super windy and a cold front started moving in, but luckily we still had sunshine and decent light for most of the hike.

Tomorrow evening I am off to Arizona for a week of climbing, camping, hiking, art museum visits, and of course photographing! I am so excited to get a break from Manhattan and share lots of images and stories here when I get back. If you want to keep up with our adventures during the week be sure to follow me on instagram. Miscellaneous Adventures

I have a few random images from the past few weeks that I finally got around to editing. They are all from different days, but don’t really deserve a post to themselves, so I’m going to throw them all together here.

This first one is from yet another hike in the Konza Prairie back at the beginning of April. I stumbled on this area where half the prairie was burned, and half was not, and I just loved the stark contrast of the two areas.

 

Spring has finally arrived in Manhattan, and the trees in my apartment complex were all blooming. I cut some branches off to put in vases in my apartment and ended up with some in almost every room. I have a few more images that I will be posting later on of the larger vase as well.

A week ago or so I ended up going on a spontaneous sunset chase with a good friend. He has lived in Manhattan for quite a while and took me to some new spots. We ended up finding this random, perfect hill that we climbed to the top of to see this incredible view. It was perfect, absolutely perfect.

My grad work right now is about the sense of place that is lost with Alzheimer’s. Thursday I went out and shot quite a few houses, which I will then weave together.

*Wednesday, October 17
I missed 2 days while I was trying to get caught up and unpacked from my trip. Then I went out to shoot for my grad work, and this was about all I ended up with on Wednesday.

I had a wonderfully productive afternoon/evening in studio tonight, and the light was perfect when I was leaving.

I went out to the prairie to get pictures of epic clouds, but by the time I got there they were all gone. But, I hadn’t done a stitch for a while, so I thought it would be a good option.

The past few days have been crazy busy; grad school finally feels like grad school.

*Wednesday, September 12

Wednesday afternoon I met up with a fellow blogger, Laurie,  who happens to live in Manhattan as well. Laurie runs an adorable bed and breakfast here, called The Morning Star. We walked to a restaurant downtown called The Chef Cafe, which was delicious. Fluffy pancakes with pecan dark rum syrup, bananas, and pecans; it was a great way to start my day.

I got my film just in time for the last day of roid week! I needed to get out and clear my head, so I went out on a hike in the Konza Prairie and shot a few while I was out there.

*Saturday, August 11
Saturday was Chris’s (my fiance) last day with me in Kansas. We went out to dinner and then went for a hike in the Konza Prairie. It was a wonderful, but bittersweet evening.
