Today has been a perfectly gloomy, cool day. I long for days like today, like most long for the sun and warmth. However, I am clearly addicted to light and shadows, as you all can tell from one of my current series. It is days like today that make me love the little moments of light even more though. And as winter slowly creeps up on us, and the light becomes a different kind of beautiful, I find myself being even more attentive to these moments.

moments of light
I haven’t shared images from my phone in quite some time, or from my camera even for that matter. Life has been a bit of a whirlwind lately. But I have been shooting, and have a plethora of images to share, including lots of my favorite subject. In fact, I have so many of light, that I am going to break it up into multiple posts. So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy these moments of light on this fine Wednesday night.
light.
Time for another dump of images from my phone of the light around me. These first images are from my apartment, work, and of course Scott’s house.
This week I was especially mesmerized by the light in Scott’s living room. The other evening we were sitting on the couch together and all of a sudden he said, “you should shoot that.” Just ten minutes earlier I had photographed the light on the same wall, but looking up then I noticed it had completely changed since I last looked. We sat and watched it for a bit, partly while I was shooting, and partly just enjoying it. I am so glad my boyfriend is understanding of (and even appreciates) my love of light. We decided a time-lapse of that light would be amazing, so expect that soon as well. For now, here are the images of that evening playing out on one wall.
Moments of evening light
I finally downloaded the WordPress app for my phone, so I decided to do some posting of images I take with my phone on a more regular basis, starting tonight.
The light tonight was so lovely, and beautiful shadows were falling everywhere in and around Scott’s house. I don’t have my camera with me, but I ran around with my phone snapping away.
New York City (Part Three)
As promised, here are (almost) all of the images I took with my phone while in New York City.
This church was directly across the street from the bed and breakfast that we stayed at in Chelsea. I was in awe every time I walked outside.
The International Print Center. From the High Line.
Seen on the High Line. The Frick Collection. The Light in the Frick was absolutely incredible, hence the long series just from there.
Charline von Heyl at The Whitney Biennial.
More from The Whitney Biennial (I cannot recall the artist though). The largest camera obscura I have ever experienced. This was by far one of my favorite things from the entire trip. I could have sat in that room for hours, and was wishing I had my tripod with so I could do a long exposure and show it off properly.
The Whitney permanent collection.
Mira Schendel at the Hauser & Wirth Gallery. It is tough to see what exactly is going on in this image, but these drawings were between layers of plexiglass and then suspended from the ceiling. They were all on different planes, so depending on the angle you were looking the entire composition looked different. The red square was actually a ways behind and off to the right of the others as well. It was another one of my favorites from the trip.
Another piece by Mira Schendel. This room was filled with fishing line suspended from the ceiling. It was quite surreal.
The Guggenheim of course.
And from our flight home.

moments of light 2
As some of you may have read in my last “moments of light” post, lately I have been completely obsessed with documenting the light around me. As a photographer I have always been interested in light, but lately it has become the most important thing. I’m still not entirely sure why it is such a dominating factor for me (and my work) lately, but I don’t think it will fade at least any time soon.
Most of these moments get documented on instagram, since I always have my phone with me. If you want to follow along with this series the best way to do so would be to follow me on there.
And a little teaser of what I’ve been up to on instagram. You will notice that I’ve been focused on a few different things over the past few weeks.
There are more to come in the future I am sure, so keep your eyes peeled for more moments of light. Also, I will be home in Minnesota this weekend, so expect to see images of my precious nephew and other spring in MN related things soon!
moments of light.
I have always been very interested in capturing moments of beautiful natural light. The way that light reflects off of things, shines through and wraps around, casting beautifully unique shadows and ripples of light, is fascinating to me. Lately I seem to be even more drawn (borderline obsessed perhaps) to these things, and often stop in the middle of whatever I am doing to capture these little moments.
The first two are from my phone, because that is what I consistently have easily available when these moments happen. And, unfortunately I accidentally cleared off some of my favorite images (or I expected them to be) from my SD card before transferring them to my computer. I’m hoping to re-shoot a similar thing soon, but for now here are some of my recently documented “moments of light” to share with you.
