moments of light.

I have always been very interested in capturing moments of beautiful natural light. The way that light reflects off of things, shines through and wraps around, casting beautifully unique shadows and ripples of light, is fascinating to me. Lately I seem to be even more drawn (borderline obsessed perhaps) to these things, and often stop in the middle of whatever I am doing to capture these little moments.

The first two are from my phone, because that is what I consistently have easily available when these moments happen. And, unfortunately I accidentally cleared off some of my favorite images (or I expected them to be) from my SD card before transferring them to my computer. I’m hoping to re-shoot a similar thing soon, but for now here are some of my recently documented “moments of light” to share with you.

22/366 – Avocado

I was thinking today about the information that I post with my pictures, and I was wondering if I share enough. So I am considering creating a post just where I answer questions that any of you might have. They can be about anything; specific photographs or techniques, my photography in general, my background, anything. If anyone would be interested in this be sure to comment and let me know! Or shoot me an email, I would love to hear from you all!

24/365 – Smoke Screens

I have had this idea in my head (title and all) for quite a few weeks, and finally got around to it. More to come for sure, I had a tough time deciding on one.

Also, once again I have entered a contest which requires votes. I would so appreciate every vote I can get, so please, go vote for my portfolio and spread the word to as many people as you can! They have a quick and easy way of sharing my portfolio through facebook and twitter among other things, so get the word out! And of course, thank you so much for all the support everyone!

Trey and Deeanna

I had the privilege of shooting Jay and Deeanna’s wedding a few weeks ago. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day, and everything went so smoothly it was just wonderful! Congratulations you two!

We started off the day at Deeanna’s house with hair and makeup for her. The natural light in there was a dream, and with Ana Crane-Simpson doing the hair and makeup it was such a great start to the day.

After finishing up Deeanna’s hair and makeup we had a slight break before group shots at the hotel, so I managed to get some detail shots of her beautiful dress, jewelry, and shoes.

This was such a cute little memory from the day for me, a text from Trey while getting ready. It is a little hard to see here, but it says “still wanna do this? :)” Such a perfect example of how fun these two are.

Then it was time for the guys to get their pictures taken. My partner for the day, Susannah, shot most of them while I was with Deeanna while she got dressed.

And then came the girls. It was a bit tricky because Trey and Deeanna didn’t want to do an early reveal, so it took some coordinating to make sure they didn’t accidentally run into each other.

After wrapping things up at the hotel we headed to the beautiful Estes Chapel to get ready for the ceremony and do some pictures there.

Trey’s gift to Deeanna was so beautiful, and the card that was with it was so touching.

Because the chapel was so beautiful and so full of natural light we stayed inside to get some quick group shots.

We then headed across the street to get some pictures with the beautiful greens all around. The light couldn’t have been more perfect there.

Trey was waiting in the background, and for the first couple of shots I didn’t notice that he was in the frame. But it ended up being a fun little addition to the image in my opinion.

5/365 – Tiny Growth

This spring I was browsing scrolling through Craftgawker (such a fun site) and stumbled on the Etsy shop of TortoiseLovesDonkey (two links in one post! A first for me!). I immediately fell in love with almost everything in there, but especially the three tiny little terrariums. As soon as they arrived at my house I knew I would want to use them for photographs, but never got around to it for one reason or another. Unfortunately, one got mold on the leaves and has since shriveled up, and the second one just doesn’t look so good. The third one however has sprouted some new growth and is simply beautiful. And the light coming in the window where they sit was just perfect for a shot tonight, so here it is! I played around with the editing more than I usually do to, and I absolutely love it, I hope you enjoy!

42/52 – Clean

This was such a last-minute idea, yet these are my favorite pictures that I have ever taken of myself. I had the hardest time choosing, so there will most likely be another post with the others that I loved.

Basically straight out of the camera too, just some basic and minimal editing.

38/52 – Upside Down

This is what has happened to my life in the past week.

254/365 – Strawberries and Pumpkin

Yum. My parents discovered this pumpkin pancake mix, and have sent me a few boxes, and I must say I love it. It is so delicious. Well Whitney and I made some the other day and had tons of left overs, so this afternoon after class I thought I would treat myself to a nice breakfast (well, lunch really). I had bought strawberries yesterday, and cut up a ton of them to put on my pumpkin pancakes. It was incredible.
